The FASD Action Plan

The really big news of the year so far is the launch of the FASD Action Plan which occurred on the 16th of August. We were fortunate to have a good representation of FASD-CAN members attend Parliament – a significant event for us all.

The plan itself is not a cure-all but it is a good start. It clearly has a strong prevention focus and the underlying intent of the document is sound. The goal of the plan is broad: “FASD is prevented and people with FASD and their family/whanau live the best possible lives”. Of course, in a society where there is alcohol, there will always be FASD. There will always, therefore, be a need to provide joined up services, support and diagnosis.
