Child to Parent Violence and Abuse (CPVA) is more common than most people think. It can occur in any family and there are many reasons why it may happen. Parents and caregivers have reported feeling ashamed that this is happening to them.
VisAble is disabled person-led organisation based in Aotearoa, New Zealand. They work to strengthen national capabilities across agencies and sectors to prevent and respond to violence, abuse and neglect affecting disabled people and their whānau.
There have been no prevalence studies done in Aotearoa New Zealand, which means that it remains invisible in policy and service provision.
VisAble want to change this and they are asking you to help by filling in a survey to help them understand CPVA and how it impacts families. They recognise that understanding certain behaviours can be complex, particularly when they may overlap with a child’s developmental, health or disability-related needs.
Please know that there is no judgment in this process. Your responses will help VisAble advocate for more inclusive and effective policies and services. The survey is anonymous – they will not ask you to share your name or contact details.
