Webinar: Caregivers Coping with Violence and Abuse

The struggles, the strategies, and what caregivers want professionals to know.

With Professor Anita Gibbs and Lee Tempest

In this webinar, Professor Gibbs will draw on her extensive research with caregivers to explore definitions of child to parent violence and abuse, and how children and youth with FASD are vulnerable in this area. As a parent of a rangatahi with FASD herself, she'll discuss what the impacts are on caregivers, and what strategies can be employed to manage these challenges. She will end with what caregivers would like professionals to know and do about the extreme challenges that caregivers face in terms of experiencing violence and abuse. (45 mins).

Lee will talk about the recent book 'Not fit for Purpose – Disability Rights Abuse of Children living with FASD in New Zealand' on the systemic failure of policies and services for children with FASD, and her search for interventions that may help families experiencing violence and abuse (30 mins).

There will be time for questions at the end of the webinar.
