Additional responsibilities and powres of a Property Manager

Property managers also have additional responsibilities, including:

  • Filing financial statements with the court.

  • Having the power to buy or sell the subject person's property, with the Court’s permission.

Property managers also have some powers that property administrators do not.

  • They can apply to the Court to make a will for the subject person. This can be done at the same time as applying to become a property manager.  The person applying would need a sworn affidavit attesting to the need for the will, and provide a draft of the will.

  • They can act to unwind transactions that the subject person has entered into by mistake, misrepresentation or fraud.

Property Managers and Property Administrators are not usually paid for their role, but they can claim expenses incurred while carrying out their duties. However, if the Public Trust acts as the property manager they do charge fees for this role. To find out more about the Public Trust and what it does click here.
