Petition: End Youth Homelessness

FASD-CAN friend Aaron Hendry of Kick Back Make Change, alongside Auckland Action Against Poverty and Action Station, has launched a petition calling on the Government to implement 'Duty to Assist' legislation to prevent youth homelessness.

This legislation has been implemented in the UK with success. It puts responsibility on the Government, health professionals and the community sector to do all we can do to prevent homelessness. As well we know, many of those who are homeless will have FASD.

Duty to Assist would place a legal requirement on state agencies, enforceable by the courts, to ensure that young people coming into conflict with the law are assessed for housing insecurity, and provided support to gain stable accommodation.
