Masterclass: Beyond behaviour – supporting ākonga using CPS

How can we better support ākonga with FASD (or other neurodivergence) before difficulties escalate?

Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (CPS), developed by clinical psychologist Dr Ross Greene, is an evidence-based, trauma-informed approach. It helps us identify the skills an student with FASD may be struggling with and the unsolved problems getting in their way.

Join CPS practitioner Fiona Harkness for a focused 90-minute workshop grounded in her experience of implementing the model in Aotearoa akomanga / classrooms. Fiona will share what CPS looks like in practice, what has worked, and some of the challenges and key learnings from the field. You’ll explore practical ways to:

• look beyond behaviour to see the communication behind it

• respond proactively rather than waiting for difficulties to escalate

• reduce conflict and strengthen trust and relationships.

This practical and honest session will offer useful ideas for creating more collaborative, supportive learning environments in your own kura / school.
