Police Launch Disability Roadmap

For the last 15 months, FASD-CAN’s Chair Dr Leigh Henderson has been part of a Disability Advisory Group working with the Police on a new framework for neurodivergent people.

Alongside other representatives from autism, ADHD, Deaf and other disability groups, Leigh has had input into helping the Police to become more aware of how best to engage with rangatahi and adults with FASD who have a higher chance of becoming involved with the justice system, due to challenges with executive and adaptive functioning.

The Roadmap sets out 16 actions the Police are committed to implement over the next five years. The first, already ticked off, is establishing the Disability Advisory Group, who will be on hand to consult for the rest of the actions.
