Since its inception FASD-CAN has advocated for FASD to be recognised as a disability in Aotearoa NZ. 

This is necessary to be able to access the level of support many of our loved ones with FASD need.

In 2021, the then-Disability Rights Commissioner and the Children’s Commissioner highlighted the potential breach of human rights for with FASD in being ineligible for Disability Support Services – unless they have a proven intellectual disability (an IQ under 70).
