In 2023 FASD-CAN wrote about the relevance of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) for people with FASD, and their caregivers, whānau and families.
We particularly looked at the definition of disability in relation to FASD, and how the recent review of New Zealand’s implementation of the Convention indicated several issues, including ones specifically related to FASD, still needed to be addressed.
You can find out more information about the link between the UNCRPD and FASD here: Unpacking the UNCRPD for FASD.
The Canada FASD Research Network (CanFASD) also wrote in January 2025 about the link between the rights people with FASD have under the UNCRPD and their rights to a diagnosis and housing.
