Update on FASD Strategic Action Plan

In mid-2024, a group was formed to provide strategic leadership and a coordinated approach for the refresh of the FASD Action Plan, which had been announced in April 2024 by Dr Shane Reti, Minister of Health.

The FASD Strategic Action Plan Coordination Group includes FASD-CAN kaimahi alongside representatives from health, justice, social service and population agencies, and also people with lived experience of FASD.

Manatū Hauora, the Ministry of Health, are drafting an FASD Strategic Action Plan for the Minister based on community engagements in August and September 2024 (which many of our members took part in), as well as local and international research on FASD.

Here’s an update on where the plan is now heading:

• Targeted consultation/engagement with FASD community organisations and FASD clinical networks on the FASD Strategic Action Plan - estimated February/March 2025

• Community insights report to be published – estimated March/April 2025

• Cabinet consideration of FASD Strategic Action Plan – estimated May/June 2025

• Proposed public event for the launch of the FASD Strategic Plan – estimated June/July 2025.
