Vision planning tools

Vision planning tools can help you create your shared vision. Here are a few ideas to assist you.

Vision Planning: A Guide for Parents and Carers

Parent2Parent and Care Matters have helpfully developed a 9-page booklet entitled: Vision Planning – A Guide for parents and carers.   The booklet covers:

  • what a vision plan is
  • why a vision plan is important
  • what a vision plan can look like
  • how to create a vision plan
  • some top tips
  • some additional resources.

You can access this booklet here:  Vision Planning - A guide for parents and carers

The PATH Planning Tool (Planning Alternative Tomorrows with Hope)

PATH is a creative tool that helps people visualise their future and plan to achieve their goals. It's used in a variety of contexts, including personal growth, career planning, and strategic planning.

Here's how the PATH planning tool works:

Set a vision

The group starts by identifying the person's dreams and ideal future without limits.

Set goals

The group then works together to identify specific, positive, and achievable goals.

Plan backwards

The group uses backwards planning to create a step-by-step plan to achieve their goals.

Record the plan

The group records their plan in words and pictures on a large sheet of paper.

You can find out more about this Vision Developing tool from pages 27-29 in this publication.

Keeping records

Don't forget to keep your shared vision in your notebook or file – use them as living documents that you can refer back to, review and adjust over time so they remain relevant to your situation.
