The Administration Act 1969 of New Zealand establishes the roles of administrator and temporary administrator for the administration of estates.
Administrator
An individual appointed by the High Court to manage the estate of a deceased person. The administrator's responsibilities include distributing the estate according to the will or the laws of intestacy (i.e. what happens if you die without a will).
Temporary administrator
An individual appointed by the High Court to manage the estate of a deceased person when legal proceedings are pending. The temporary administrator has the same rights and powers as a general administrator, but cannot distribute the estate until certain expenses are paid.
