Who can be an Independent Trustee


An independent trustee can be a person or entity that is not a beneficiary of the trust and is not entitled to its assets. This can include:

  • Family friend

A close friend of the settlor may be able to act as an independent trustee. 

  • Accountant

An accountant with knowledge of trust legislation can ensure the trust complies with the Trusts Act 2019. 

  • Lawyer

A lawyer with knowledge of trust legislation can ensure the trust complies with the Trusts Act 2019.
