Moving from being a teen to an adult is rarely easy, but for a rangatahi with FASD – and for their whānau / families – it can be really hard. Teens with FASD have some added stressors, for example dysmaturity (looking and seeming their age, but being functionally younger); executive and adaptive functioning challenges, and being overly trusting or keen to be liked.
The good news is, you're not alone in working through this: after a recent workshop about our website resource, 'Teens and Beyond', we realised that parents, caregivers, grandparents and whānau want more support through these tricky years.
We have set up a new monthly connection group to address this!
• Each monthly session will happen on the third Thursday of each month, at 7.30pm-8.30pm.
• Each monthly online session will follow the same outline:
- 15 minutes: welcome, introductions, wins since last month, and a quick check-in
- 30 minutes: one focused topic with practical strategies, examples, and discussion (see below for topics)
- 15 minutes: questions and sharing.
Please sign up to get your Zoom link – this link will not change and you'll be reminded when each session is coming up.
