Supporting transitions to adulthood for rangatahi / young people with FASD.
Planning your teenager's transition into adulthood is an important step to help the whole whānau adjust to the next stage of their life. Your rangatahi / young person may have a strong desire to live independently for example, because they hear their peers talk about moving out of their family homes – but there's a lot to consider and it will almost certainly take longer to work through the transition to adulthood for someone with FASD.
This free workshop is open to any caregiver and whānau who is supporting a young person move from teen years to adulthood.
PLEASE NOTE: There is some funding available for travel for caregivers/whānau from outside of Auckland to this training – if you are interested in this, don't delay!
Aims of the workshop
• To build understanding of FASD and its impact on the transition to adulthood
• To centre rangatahi strengths, hopes, and support needs in planning
• To map whānau‑centred support networks using culturally responsive approaches
• To increase confidence in navigating services
• Longer term legal considerations and next steps.
